Real-time, 3-D Graphics in Linux

چکیده
The present generation of accelerated PC graphics adapters are capable rendering complex 3-D scenes in realtime. However, software support for these adapters has been slow to evolve in Linux. In this paper we describe our experiences in developing a software system that provides accelerated graphics support to the Mesa graphics library. The performance of accelerated Mesa is compared with that of commerically available Windows NT software running on the same hardware and with mid-range and high-end SGI workstations.

متن کاملShielded Processors: Guaranteeing Sub-millisecond Response in Standard Linux
There has been significant progress making standard Linux into a more responsive system for real-time applications. The low latency patches and the preemption patches have allowed guarantees on worst case interrupt response time at slightly above a millisecond. These guarantees today are only met when there is no networking or graphics activity in the system. The shielded processor concept dedi...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of a 3D Parallel Volume Rendering Application on Scalable Tiled Displays
Current high-speed general-purpose networks, such as 1Gigabit/10Gibabit networks, are fast enough to handle the demanding tasks of routing streams of graphics primitives. Systems built with such networks and off-the-shelf GPUs and PCs, are being used to provide graphics clusters, which are more economical than expensive graphics supercomputers. Further, the current trend in building high-resolu...
متن کاملUltra-Fast Image Reconstruction of Tomosynthesis Mammography Using GPU
Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is a technology that creates three dimensional (3D) images of breast tissue. Tomosynthesis mammography detects lesions that are not detectable with other imaging systems. If image reconstruction time is in the order of seconds, we can use Tomosynthesis systems to perform Tomosynthesis-guided Interventional procedures. This research has been designed to study u...
متن کاملEighth Real - Time Linux Workshop
Microkernels are an intriguing technology for operating systems research in general and for real-time systems in particular. To gain experience and to explore new ground, the OS research group at Technische Universität Dresden has been developing L4/Fiasco, a real-time implementation of the L4 microkernel specification. Using this kernel, we built an architecture that supports legacy software a...
